flippin sweet cherry case and wrist rest
I stumbled upon r/mechanicalkeyboards and very quickly decided I needed one. So I went online, snagged a Pok3r with cherry blues, and got an almost 1976 keycap set to go with. The unit came in a really nice heavy cast aluminum case and while that was all well and good, it wasn't enough. When you have access to a CNC machine and a suite of design software, you know you got to step your keyboard game up. I was able to find the 2d layout in dxf format online and get to work on the case. I ran off several iterations, checking dimensions, and seeing if I liked the fitment, and finally when I was happy with everything I snagged some cherry and got to cutting. The standoffs that connect the PCB to the case were hand turned brass sections that were threaded and glued into place inside of a press-fit to ensure it would never separate. As every avid keyboardist knows, the long throw of the keys and the height of the case require a wrist rest to get the proper angle when typing, so I used the dimensions from the cad drawing of the case, calculated the height on the side facing you, chucked a .25 ball nose and we were off to the races. The finished case and rest were then finish sanded and a coat of linseed oil was applied to darken the wood, and seal in the goodness. Check it out.
